Repurposing. I have become a big fan of the word over the years. Working in the construction industry, I see a lot of useful material get thrown in the dumpster. Luckily that is starting to change. One project that I am working has 5 dumpsters on site, one for wood, cardboard, metal, general trash, etc. So its nice to see the industry taking steps for fix that.
Any who, my parents had a old fence that need to be replaced. I took about 10-15 of the old cedar fence boards home to repurpose them. One of the projects I had in mind was to make some flower boxes out of them.
Over all I think they turned out great. A few things to keep in mind if you are doing a project like this. The fence boards are not going to be perfect. Each board and a different twist in it, is bowed in a different way. So when screwing the boards together, be patient and know that its not going to be perfect. Plus I think it gives the flower box some character when its not perfect. Also consider the size. If you are going to be moving these around, they do get heavy when you fill them with dirt.
Now to figure out what to do with the other boards…
